Contact Lens Solutions: Dos And Don’ts

When people start wearing contact lenses, they are extensively instructed in proper care. This is absolutely essential to ensure healthy eyes and good vision but there is a tendency to overlook the importance of similar instructions when it comes to contact lens solutions. After all, they are an indispensable part of the package and contact lens wearers must adopt the best practices for the sake of their eye health.

To begin with, you should not just buy any old solution from the shelf, WebMD warns. The safest course of action is to use products that come recommended by your eye doctor. Pay good attention to the expiry date on the label and throw the solution away if it has gone past that date (provided there is anything left by that time, of course).

When it comes to solutions, contact lens wearers must never forget that anything left in the case after the contacts have been used must be thrown away! Never top off the solution in the case as it is essentially dirty and has practically no disinfecting properties left, so will be unable to kill any microorganisms on the lenses.

Transferring some of the solution into another container is not a good idea and it is strongly recommended that you avoid this at all costs. People often do this when they have to travel, but the problem is that this transfer can interfere with the sterility of the solution and can pose the risk of an eye infection.
