More BrandsLeading contact lens manufacturer Bausch + Lomb (B+L) has begun distribution of its new monthly contact lens, known as ULTRA. The product incorporates B+L’s MoistureSeal technology, which has been under study and development for seven years.
The new technology delivers comfort and visual clarity for contact lens wearers thanks to the combination of cutting-edge material and novel manufacturing processes, B+L said. The ULTRA lens was given a formal presentation during the educational event organised by B+L for eye care professionals (ECPs); the one-day training initiative provided over 300 ECPs with the opportunity to receive hands-on experience with the new product. They were also taught about the associated science, technology and numerous benefits for patients.
Joseph Barr, VP of medical affairs at B+L Pharmaceuticals & Vision Care, said that the new technology had sparked immense excitement among ECPs. The incredibly enthusiastic response highlights the growing need for contact lenses that tackle discomfort, and adequately meet the requirement of modern-day contact lens wearers, he said. In an age when the use of digital devices exceeds ten hours a day, B+L sees it as critical to increase comfort, vision and eye health standards to a higher level. The company believes it has achieved that with the ULTRA monthly lens, Barr added.
B+L forms part of the Canadian pharmaceutical company Valeant and obtained US regulatory approval for its frequent replacement and monthly silicone hydrogel contacts last September. The new product draws on B+L’s strength in innovation, which has resulted in breakthroughs such as the Biotrue ONEday contact lenses and the PureVision2 multi-focal for presbyopia lenses.
