The need for regular eye exams and appropriate vision-correction solutions has been highlighted by the findings of a recent UK study among more than 1,500 drivers, Optometry Today reports. The survey was conducted by optician support network Sight Care, a long-time partner of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care. The results reveal that 36% of motorists do not believe their eyesight to be at an acceptable standard for driving, with 25% admitting they see poorly when driving at night. In addition, 11% admitted to blurry daytime vision when driving.
Commenting on the findings, Sight Care CEO Paul Surridge pointed out that almost 3,000 people are killed or injured every year in the UK alone as a result of car accidents attributable to poor eyesight. This tragic loss of life can be easily prevented through regular eye tests and the suitable choice of vision correction solutions, Surridge noted.
Marcella McParland, UK & Ireland professional affairs director at Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, added that contact lenses had proved a great choice for drivers suffering from vision problems. According to market research, the Acuvue Oasys contact lenses help 75% of people achieve excellent vision when driving, even at night. This clearly shows that drivers who are unhappy with their vision should seriously consider wearing contact lenses, McParland said.
